Above the Fog--Carlton Peak, North Shore Lake Superior

On a raw Fall day I climbed to the top of the peak, which was just above the fog that was rolling in from Lake Superior. Carlton Peak's elevation is 1,526' and it's about 1 mile inland. This view is looking east towards Grand Marias, and shows the tops of a few other peaks in the Sawtooth Mountains that run along the rugged north shore of Lake Superior.. Carlton Peak is a summit in the Sawtooth Mountains in southern Tofte Township, Cook County, in northeastern Minnesota. In 1848 Reuben B. Carlton of Fond du Lac, Minnesota, ascended the peak with Col. Charles Whittlesey, who was participating in a geological survey expedition. In appreciation Whittlesey named the mountain in Carlton's honor.
